The Ways of God are Steadfast

Each autumn, I prayerfully ask the Lord to give me a word to help guide me through the upcoming year. In late December 2024, I felt certain my word for 2025 was steadfast.

To help stay connected to this word, I use a photo my husband took, and with the help of Photoshop, I print my word on the picture and purchase an 11 x 14” print. This special photo, displaying the guiding word, hangs in my office all year.

I had a difficult time selecting the just-right photograph for steadfast until we returned from a getaway early this year to Arizona. One of the places we visited was Mission San Xavier del Bac, the oldest mission in Tucson, Arizona, established in 1692. It seemed to represent beautifully the concept of steadfastness.

In today’s post, I’d like to share with you some of Ron’s photos from our Arizona trip along with thoughts and Bible verses on which I’ve meditated these past few months. I hope you’ll enjoy!

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. (Isaiah 26:3)

Definition of Steadfast: resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering. (Oxford Dictionary)

A synonym of steadfast is faithful. Ron, who captured his shadow in this desert photo, has been my steadfast husband, faithful friend, and favorite travel partner for almost 46 years.

My sister Karol and her husband Bob were wonderful Arizona hosts. It occurred to me while we were there that I have known Karol, who is 19 months younger than I, longer than any other living person. Steadfast relationships with family and friends are exceptionally special gifts.

Therefore, my beloved brothers [and sisters], be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

(1 Corinthians 15:58)

Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. (Psalm 36:5)

“Over the years my mother's steadfast faith in God has inspired me, particularly when I had to perform extremely difficult surgical procedures or when I found myself faced with my own medical scare.”

Dr. Ben Carson

The Lord is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and transgression … (Numbers 14:18)

I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love, because you have seen my affliction; you have known the distress of my soul, (Psalm 31:7)

Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them round your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. (Proverbs 3:3)

Blessings on our journey!
