The Lord Bless and Keep You …

For those of us who call ourselves Christians, I believe Romans 12 may be the most practical guide for how to live out a day-to-day authentic faith. I appreciate how Eugene Peterson, biblical scholar, theologian, and masterful crafter of words, translates Romans 12 in The Message.

Way too often, I am struck by the unkindness expressed by Christians who have differing doctrinal or political  positions. Just this morning, after reading some harsh, irritated posts, I thought about the words of Romans 12:14, which were written by the Apostle Paul almost 2000 years ago and remain applicable today.

Bless your enemies; no cursing under your breath.

Romans 12:14 (MSG)

I do not possess the insight to understand nor judge another person’s heart, but I can bless those with whom I agree and disagree. Why?  Because I believe I can trust that God knows each heart (1Samuel 16:7) and will bless fittingly and faithfully in accordance with knowledge only the Divine possesses.

Today’s post is quite simply the words of my favorite blessing, known as the Aaronic or priestly blessing found in the Old Testament, which I am praying for you today.

Blessings on your journey through agreeable and disagreeable days,
