Wecome October!

Did you know October has been dubbed “Emotional Wellness Month?” I just learned this bit of trivia, and it’s easy to imagine the year’s first double-digit month is good for one’s soul. Thanks for joining me today for a few October thoughts.

This first Listening on the Journey … blog post of October, I would like to celebrate what has become my favorite month of the year.

I do not like winter very much, and in September, I often struggle with what mental health professionals call “Autumn Anxiety.” Even though I won’t miss the extreme heat of summer and especially won’t miss smoke from fires, which our region has experienced the past several summers, autumn means winter is just around the corner and anticipating cold temperatures and short days creates some stress for me.

By the first of October, however, I’ve recovered from “Autumn Anxiety” and am ready to settle into a few weeks of “Autumnal Bliss.” Everything-October feels cozy. Snuggling under a fuzzy throw. Watching flickering fireplace flames. Preparing fragrant homemade soups to nourish body and soul. Lighting spicy candles. Purchasing that Costco pumpkin pie [occasionally]!  Vacationing. (Yes, October is my favorite month to travel.)

Then, returning home to a marvelous Coeur d’Alene October, finding great delight in the warm color palette of autumn leaves.

Leisurely strolling over crunchy autumn leaves is one of life’s great delights!

October blessings to you and all those you love!
