Indeed, the seasons of life keep changing. Birthdays become bigger numbers. New generations keep emerging.
I entertained many thoughts about the circle of life during our recent getaway to Reno, Nevada, where several of our family members live. We had a special time celebrating upcoming autumn and winter birthdays, including that of our adorable great-grandson who is now two.
On our trip this time, we took a bookcase, plus a table and chairs Ron crafted for the grandkids more than three decades ago. Before we left, he cleaned them all up and reinforced the three remaining chairs. I had a new brass plate engraved with a small but significant edit.

During our getaway, I not only considered the blessed heritage of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, but I also was reminded that heaven is our heritage.
Both Ron’s and my parents are now in heaven. I have few preconceived ideas about what heaven will be like, but I have no doubt we will one day be reunited with generations of family in an eternal home, which will be good beyond our imagination.
In the meantime, I plan to celebrate each new season, and each new birthday with as much grace, dignity, and humor as I can muster. Most definitely, I will rejoice in the birth of each new “heritage from the Lord,” committed to loving on and praying for them until it is time for me to make that final earthly transition.
