God’s Kingdom and Little Children—A Winning Combination
“One day some parents brought their little children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But when the disciples saw this, they scolded the parents for bothering him.
Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” (Luke 18:15-17 NLT)
When I read the Gospels, one of the most endearing things to me about Jesus is his love for children. This was especially remarkable since the culture into which Jesus entered was one that generally considered children as possessions who weren’t particularly valuable.
I enjoy kids and often feel glad Ron and I don’t live in an over-55 community. I would miss the exuberance, activity, and enthusiasm kids bring to the neighborhood.
I recall a conversation I once had with a devout Christian woman, whose faith perspective seems a bit overly solemn. I mentioned Jesus laughing, and she quickly queried, “Where in the Bible does it say Jesus laughed?” I couldn’t recall reading he had laughed, but my response, which seemed logical to me, was, “He welcomed children. How can anyone be around kids and not laugh?”
We recently returned from a family visit, where we had a great time celebrating several loved ones’ birthdays plus a college graduation. A big highlight of our trip was becoming acquainted with our great grandson, a pudgy, usually smiling 7-month-old.
Our celebration included a landmark 60th birthday!
Since I realize babies often experience “stranger danger” around this age, I was concerned the little guy might be afraid of Ron and me. Perhaps selfishly, I prayed and asked God to help him warm up to us quickly. My prayer was answered.
In today’s post, I hope you’ll indulge this granny (Our new great-grandparent names are GgPa and GgMa) with some of my favorite photos of the newest member of our family, who made us laugh a lot!
“I sure do love my new swimming pool and aren’t these glasses just the coolest!”
“Mommy and Daddy love me SO MUCH!”
GgMa’s Prayer of Gratitude: “Thank you, God, for placing this precious child in a loving, supportive family!”
“Why are all these people at In-N-Out smiling at me? I just wish they’d hurry up and bring our order so I can have one of those French fries!”
Ron and I had the privilege of babysitting while the adults in the family went out to an upscale restaurant (not like In-N-Out!). Our time alone with baby was a special treat.
“Oh, GgPa, you are so silly!”
Eventually, we tried to get quiet in preparation for bedtime. “Okay, GgMa, maybe it is time to settle down! All this cuteness is sure exhausting!”
Blessings on your journey!
