A Prayer of Approach for Dark Days

A Prayer of Approach for Dark Days

Lord, Teach me to number my days, that I may gain a heart of wisdom.

Psalm 90:12

Our world has been reeling these past few days. I’ve read and heard so much, and honestly, my head aches, and my heart breaks. Please join me for a few words and a lovely photo from a garden in Kauai, Hawaii, which I hope speaks serenity to you as it does to me …

My heart aligned with a sentence I read in Ann Voskamp’s blog late last week. I had to read it through a few times before it fully sunk in.

“The only way to overcome evil is to cover everyone with a love that OTHERS no one.” (emphasis is mine)

I want to love in this way, but as I’ve been examining my thoughts and words these past couple days, I am painfully aware of how often I am guilty of “othering.”

Early this year, I listened to my favorite online devotional. (Lectio 365 is a free app that originates from 24-7 Prayer in England. Each day, there are morning, midday, and evening devotions.) The Prayer of Approach on January 11, 2025, felt right that day and feels even more relevant today.

“God of every blessing, as I meditate on your word, would you prune my priorities, refine my character, and realign my desires. Shape my life so that I may more clearly resemble my King and more sincerely live for his kingdom.”

Amen

Blessings on your journey through these sad days,
