A Celtic Weaving Prayer for Peace

Our weather has felt a little dreary and the news somewhat disconcerting these past few days. Perhaps that is why I was drawn into the message of a Celtic prayer, which invites The Holy Trinity to weave peace into our day. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have.

One of my favorite metaphors for the way in which the life of a Christian believer comes together is that of a tapestry. I imagine throughout the days of our journeys, there is a divine weaving together of the threads of our life. Woven into the “Tapestry of Me” are threads of the Holy Trinity – God, the Father; God, the Son; and God, the Spirit.

Perhaps, because I appreciate the metaphor, I found the words of this Celtic prayer captivating and comforting.

A Weaving Pattern

The weaving of peace be thine

Peace around thy soul entwine

Peace of the Father flowing free

Peace of the Son sitting over thee

Peace of the Spirit for thee and me

Peace of the one

Peace of the Three

A weaving of peace be upon thee

Around thee twine the Three

The One the Trinity

The father bind his love

The Son tie his salvation

The Spirit wrap his power

Make you a new creation

Around thee twine the Three

The encircling of the Trinity

(from The Edge of Glory – Prayers in the Celtic Tradition by David Adam, p.49)

Today, I pray that wherever you are and whatever life circumstances you are facing, you will sense the weaving of the peace of The Trinity into the “Tapestry of You.”

Blessings on your journey!
